Target Audience

This activity is designed for infectious diseases specialists, and other physicians, nurses and related professionals, involved in the management of HIV/AIDS.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

• Identify issues that can negatively impact outcomes in HIV patients, including patient nonadherence, and discuss practical solutions to minimize these issues
• Describe the importance of how management of integrated HIV comorbidities, such as concomitant HCV, can effect early, initial ARV treatment decisions and impact long term treatment outcomes
• Discuss how to best manage the development of resistance in HIV-positive patients  and the clinical value of HIV resistance testing to promote appropriate treatment
• Individualize ARV therapy to specific patient demographics and characteristics
• Implement current treatment guidelines and recent data (ICAAC/IDSA) for optimal management of HIV patients, with focus on treatment initiation and selection
